Install NIS client package:
apt-get install system-network-nis

update /etc/nsswitch.conf :
passwd: files nis
group: files nis

 /etc/defaultdomain - put here <NIS domain>

domainname <NIS domain>

add <NIS domain> to /etc/hosts

Add NIS server on client:
ypinit -c
Enable nis/client service:
 svcadm enable nis/client
